Work Matters:
The Life & Death of the Neighborhood Corner Bar

Wednesday, October 18 | 6:30 PM-7:30 PM

Explore the BMI’s newest exhibition on the Neighborhood Corner Bar and hear curator Rachel Donaldson in conversation with Jon Michaud, author of Last Call at Coogan’s: The Life and Death of a Neighborhood Bar and the owners of Melanie’s at Griffith’s Tavern in Hampden.

Melanie’s @ Griffith’s Tavern opened in April of 2022, but has been a neighborhood watering hole for nearly 100 years. Originally a stag bar, it now stands as an inclusive space, reimagined by new owners Hannah Spangler and Allison Crowley.

Jon Michaud is a writer and librarian based in New Jersey. He is the author of two books: When Tito Loved Clara, a novel (2011) and Last Call at Coogan’s: The Life and Death of a Neighborhood Bar (2023). Copies of Last Call will be available for sale in the gift shop.

Conversation included with museum admission.
