Then & Now – October 16 at the BMI

Then & Now is an after-hours program series hosted at the BMI that seeks to connect historical narratives with contemporary industry. Join us on Thursday October 16th at 6:00 PM for a conversation about black-owned business past and present inspired by our latest exhibit The Daily Hustle: Photographs of I. Henry Phillips Sr. Delve into the rich history of Black enterprise, especially during the 1940s—a time of both profound discrimination and deep community investment. We’ll examine the systemic barriers Black business owners faced—including redlining, predatory lending, and disinvestment—and the creative, collective strategies they used to overcome them.

This program is open to the public, but BMI members enjoy free admission.
