What are the forces shaping Baltimore’s healthcare industry today? This installment of Industry Social Club addresses several critical themes in Baltimore’s healthcare landscape, including the impact of funding shifts, the interdisciplinary intersections of the healthcare field, and the historical and current role of the industry as a major employer in Baltimore. Furthermore, the discussion looks toward the next decade of healthcare, exploring how technological advancements like AI may impact the workforce, while also examining the practical application of health equity and the shared responsibilities involved in achieving it.

Industry Social Club is a free, quarterly, after-hours program for local professionals, creatives, and influencers in various industries to cultivate connections that drive success. August Industry Speakers:

Alanah Nichole Davis | Moderator

Alanah Nichole Davis (She/Her) is a Baltimore-raised, award-winning storyteller, social designer, educator, and community connector. With more than a decade of experience across journalism, communications, arts and culture, education, and community engagement, she brings a multidisciplinary approach to helping people make sense of complex ideas, connect with one another, and imagine what is possible. Davis began her career in journalism, developing a reputation for thoughtful storytelling that makes complex topics accessible and centers the people and communities behind the headlines. Her work has since expanded across communications, creative strategy, community-centered programming, and social design, allowing her to work across sectors and bring people, ideas, and opportunities together. She holds an MA in Social Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and is deeply engaged in Baltimore’s arts, cultural, youth, and community ecosystems.

Dr. Francesca Weaks | Maryland Center of Health Equity & The Genevieve Statry Group

Dr. Francesca Weaks, DrPH, MHS, MCHES is an Assistant Research Scientist with The Health, Environmental and Economic Justice (T.H.E. E.J. Lab) and the Maryland Center for Health Equity (MCHE) at the University of Maryland School of Public Health, College Park. Her academic work focuses on community health and public health policy, with expertise in healthcare access and affordability, preemption policy, health equity, and public health operations. Dr. Weaks is also the Founder and Principal Consultant of The Genevieve Strategies Group, LLC, a consulting firm dedicated to advancing public health accountability and developing innovative policy, research, and programmatic strategies that address social determinants of health and improve outcomes for underserved communities.
