Position: Early Childhood Educator

Description: This educator will plan and lead all sessions of the museum’s Wee Workers program. The program is currently held on Tuesdays during the school year at 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. The target age range for the activities is 3-5. Each week generally includes a visit to a different area of the museum, an associated craft, stories and songs. The museum will provide an existing curriculum, but it is open to changes. The educator will be responsible for preparing all needed supplies for the activities.

Qualifications: • Experience working with young children is required • Experience with other group tours and a background in history are a plus • Comfort with public speaking • Ability to work independently • Flexibility to use different rooms and types of activities • High school diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred

Position: Museum Educator

Description: Museum Educators lead interactive tours of museum exhibits and hands-on activities for school field trips, adult and senior tours, along with scout programs and birthday parties. Programs range in duration from one to two hours, with multiple programs occurring on any given day. Position includes set-up, clean up, and preparation of education materials. Hours vary depending on the needs of the groups scheduled and availability. There are both weekday and weekend positions available.

Qualifications: • Experience working with children is required • Experience with other group tours and a background in history are preferred • Ability to communicate effectively with students and adults of varied ages and backgrounds • Comfort with public speaking • Willingness to learn and effectively deliver multiple programs • Ability to manage groups and schedules • Willingness to take direction and work in cooperation with other museum teachers • High school diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred

Baltimore Museum of Industry: The Baltimore Museum of Industry (BMI) was founded in 1977 as a project of the Mayor's Office to preserve Baltimore City's rapidly disappearing industrial heritage. In 1981, the BMI incorporated as a private non-profit educational institution and moved into the historic Platt Oyster Cannery building in South Baltimore. The Board of Trustees seeks an experienced non-profit/museum professional for the position of Executive Director.

Mission: “We collect, preserve, and interpret the industrial and technological heritage of the Baltimore region for the public by presenting educational programs and exhibits that explore the stories of Maryland’s industries and the people who created and worked in them.”

The BMI has identified four institutional goals to serve this mission:

  1. To reinforce the financial foundation of the BMI.
  2. To ensure the continued stewardship and conservation of the collection and holdings.
  3. To enrich the legacy of and the respect for the history of industry in Baltimore.
  4. To grow the public awareness and support of the BMI and to promote the brand.

Summary of Position: Working in partnership with the Board of Trustees, the BMI Executive Director has comprehensive administrative responsibility for the organization, covering leadership, development, marketing, museum collections and financial management. The Executive Director oversees a wide range of related activities including, but not limited to, staff, board development, fundraising, facilities management, collections, special project administration, long-range planning, and event management.

Requirements: The BMI’s Executive Director will be self-motivated and highly organized, with experience in all phases of non-profit management and a passion for the preservation of American history. Graduate degree in History or Museum Studies and 5 – 7 years of museum experience with increasing responsibility for institutional management.
