The archives at the Baltimore Museum of Industry house many wonderful documents which allow us to tell the story of local companies such as American Brewing Company and United States Fidelity and Guarantee. Many researchers have utilized these collections which tell the story of each company from conception to closing or modernization.

We also have special collections such as the Schneidereith Print Collection. This recounts the long legacy of one family of printers and includes an oral history, examples their work, and other papers.

Another large collection that many do know about is our hundreds of ship plans from Bethlehem Steel and Skinner and Sons. The plans are being cataloged in order to allow researchers to study them. If one were looking for a particular Liberty ship’s plan, for instance, the BMI would be the place to start.

The collection in the archives that sees the most usage, is the BG&E Collection. This collection is a collection of approximately 250,000 photographs and negatives given to the BMI by BG&E. The images are of Baltimore’s working class in their work place from the late eighteen hundreds to 1980. The images are very unique and have let us into these workplaces that are long gone or modernized.
