We are unique among museums! The Baltimore Museum of Industry focuses on the industrial history of Baltimore and the Maryland area and the people who worked in those industries. There are very few industrial museums in the U.S. The BMI has been recognized as having award-winning programs and talented staff. Supporting this infrastructure is an active and involved Board and a committed and enthusiastic corps of volunteers. We continue finding innovative ways to bring our industrial heritage to life. Although comparatively young, the BMI is increasingly recognized not only in the immediate Baltimore area, but also throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, and even nationally, for the quality of its collections. Scholars and researchers come to us from all over the country as well as from around the world.

Founded in 1981, the BMI has been on the leading edge not only of the types of exhibits and programs it offers, but also in recognizing the ways in which such programs are funded. We have been less dependent on government funding than most educational, arts and cultural institutions.

Foundation funding is a significant source of revenue to the BMI. We depend on foundations to help with our educational programs, special programs such as those for scouts and seniors, enhancement of exhibits and facilities, and general operating support, too. Foundations have always been important partners with us and we need your assistance for our future development. Your funding keeps the BMI in the forefront as an industrial museum and assists us in reaching an even wider and more diverse audience. We continue to be innovative and to generate great ideas, but without the support of foundations, our ideas will remain just ideas and we will be unable to maintain our unique status. With your help, we can continue to influence lives.
